Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) is a plasticizer with a strong solubility for various resins. It is primarily used in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) processing, imparting excellent softness to finished products. Due to its relatively low price and good processability, it is widely used in China, almost on par with DOP. However, its high volatility and water extractability result in poor product durability, and its use should be gradually restricted. It is also used in the manufacture of paints, adhesives, artificial leather, printing inks, safety glass, celluloid, dyes, pesticides, fragrance solvents, and textile lubricants.
